Position Overview
The Access sub-division within the Platform Services & Emerging Technologies (PSET) division at Autodesk provides the critical services and experiences that act as the gateway between Autodesk's products and customers. The key elements of Access include Identity & Access Management, Product Access/Licensing, and Admin Access & Insights.
We are seeking an experienced, strategic, and hands-on Director of Engineering to be a driver of new frontiers for our Admin Access & Insights organization whose mission it is to:
Empower Autodesk Customer Administrators and Autodesk teams with unified administration capabilities, best in class integration patterns, data foundations for insights, and cross-admin experiences
Transform cloud product administration through unified and secure solutions that empower our customers to easily manage their entire digital footprint across all Autodesk industry clouds
Inspire admins to love working with Autodesk by providing a frictionless user and access management experience
Deliver a Connected Admin experience across multiple customer Administration personas by leveraging the power of AI and the Autodesk Assistant
This role requires deep technical expertise, strong leadership skills, and a forward-looking vision for integrating security, resiliency, and AI/ML capabilities into platform design, delivery, and developer operations.
As this role oversees a global organization, you will work across multiple time zones and will travel up to 10% of the time for in-person meetings such as conferences, team offsites, and customer visits. This position is based in Canada with a preference to be hybrid to our Toronto office. If you live outside of Toronto, your travel will increase to include trips to Toronto 2 times a month.
Responsibilities
Leadership & Strategy
Define and drive the engineering strategy for platform services supporting customer administration capabilities (e.g., identity configurations, user provisioning, role-based access control, analytics, settings, etc.)
Align technical direction with company vision and product roadmap in collaboration with Product Management, Design, and Engineering leaders
Establish and nurture strong relationships and partnerships with stakeholders in product and platform teams to build trust, distill expectations into requirements, collaborate on joint execution, and gain traction with platform adoption
Mentor and develop engineering managers and senior technical staff; build a strong, high-performing engineering culture
Technical Execution
Oversee the development of reliable, scalable, secure, and observable platform services and APIs
Guide the development of intuitive and responsive admin user interfaces in collaboration with design and frontend teams
Drive continuous improvement across CI/CD pipelines, code quality, and system reliability
AI/ML Focus
Partner with AI/ML teams to design and integrate intelligent features that enhance admin workflows (e.g., chatbot interfaces, predictive insights, anomaly detection, automated recommendations)
Champion the use of AI-assisted development tools (e.g., code generation, automated testing, intelligent observability)
Evaluate and adopt emerging AI-driven capabilities in developer productivity, test coverage analysis, incident detection, and root cause analysis
Cross-Functional Collaboration
Collaborate with Security, SRE, and Compliance teams to ensure platform robustness and regulatory compliance
Work with Data Engineering, Analytics, and Customer Success teams to support operational and product intelligence capabilities
Minimum Qualifications
10+ years of engineering experience with 5+ years in leadership roles, preferably managing platform or infrastructure teams
Proven experience building platform capabilities and user-facing admin tools at scale in a cloud-native environment (AWS, GCP, or Azure)
Deep understanding of modern web services architecture, microservices, API design, and security best practices
Strong knowledge of AI/ML concepts, pipelines, and real-world application in user experiences and operational tooling
Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills; experience presenting to senior leadership and cross-functional partners
Preferred Qualifications
Hands-on experience with modern frontend frameworks (e.g., React, Angular) and backend technologies (e.g., Node.js, Go, Java, Python)
Familiarity with AI-assisted engineering tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot, Cursor, test auto-generators, AI observability platforms)
Prior experience delivering AI/ML-powered features in enterprise or SaaS platforms
Knowledge of large language models (LLMs), vector databases, and retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) systems
