CD PROJEKT RED is seeking a talented Environment Artist specializing in geological assets such as rocks, terrain, and natural formations. The role involves creating a realistic and visually compelling asset library, utilizing photogrammetry scans and digital sculpting techniques. This is an 18-month contract position where the artist will support the Environment Art team in building assets for upcoming titles, collaborating with a cross-functional and inclusive team. Responsibilities include designing and producing photorealistic geological assets, applying PBR knowledge, collaborating with Art Directors and Leads for visual consistency, integrating assets into environments, and working with Technical Artists on materials and shaders. The role also requires sharing knowledge, contributing to production pipelines, and meeting quality and performance benchmarks.
Must have:
  • Proficiency with Adobe Photoshop
  • Skilled in a major 3D modeling tool (Blender, 3DS Max, Maya)
  • Experience with ZBrush digital sculpting
  • Knowledge of photogrammetry workflows
  • Understanding of PBR workflows
  • Strong grasp of lighting and color theory
  • Excellent problem-solving skills
  • Proficient in English

Job Description

CD PROJEKT RED is currently looking for a talented Environment Artist with expertise in the creation of rocks, terrain, and geological formations. In this role, you’ll support our Environment Art team in building a realistic and visually compelling asset library of rock formations, mountains, and natural phenomena. You'll work with photogrammetry scans as well as create assets from scratch using digital sculpting techniques. Your contributions will shape the environments of our upcoming titles, all while collaborating with a cross-functional and inclusive team.
Please note: this is a full-time position on an 18-month contract.

Daily responsibilities

  • Design and produce photorealistic geological assets across a variety of tools and workflows.
  • Apply an understanding of physically based rendering (PBR), player navigation, and in-game metrics.
  • Collaborate with Art Directors and Leads to ensure visual consistency with the game’s style and creative direction.
  • Partner with other Environment Artists to integrate your assets into large-scale environments.
  • Work closely with Technical Artists and Texture Artists on materials, shaders, and templates.
  • Support the production pipeline and contribute to achieving visual quality and performance benchmarks.
  • Share knowledge and best practices with colleagues, and remain open to continuous learning and feedback.

Qualifications

  • Proficiency with Adobe Photoshop (or equivalent tools).
  • Skilled in a major 3D modeling tool such as Blender, 3DS Max, or Maya.
  • Experience with digital sculpting in ZBrush.
  • Solid knowledge of photogrammetry workflows and working with scan data.
  • Understanding of PBR workflows and shader development.
  • Strong grasp of lighting techniques and color theory.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to visual detail.
  • Self-driven and comfortable working independently or in collaboration.
  • Capable of estimating tasks and meeting production deadlines.
  • Communicative, respectful, and eager to work within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Proficient in English (spoken and written).
  • Enthusiasm for games and world-building.

Artists should include a portfolio to their application.

Additional Information

For this role you can choose between a remote-first or office-first working mode.

  • Office-First: working primarily from the Warsaw, Wroclaw, or Cracow office for a minimum of 10 days per month.
  • Remote-First: working from home, or from any location that is within 3 hours away of the UTC +2 time zone.
