Progress is seeking a motivated Sales Engineer II to help customers unlock the full potential of their SaaS and data solutions. This hybrid role involves working closely with sales teams and customers to understand business challenges, identify use cases, and demonstrate how the solution creates measurable value. Key responsibilities include conducting business-focused discovery sessions, exploring and mapping relevant use cases, delivering tailored product demonstrations, collaborating with sales and vertical teams, and educating customers on best practices. The role also involves gathering customer feedback to drive continuous improvement. Candidates should have experience in a pre-sales technical role, enthusiasm for technology, and strong communication skills. Success will be measured by customer satisfaction, the quality of identified use cases, contribution to deals, and feedback from internal teams.

Join us as a Sales Engineer II and help us do what we do best: propelling business forward.  This will be a hybrid role so a mix of working between your home office and either our Burlington MA headquarters or our Raleigh NC office.  You must be local to one of those locations to be considered for candidacy.
 
We are seeking a motivated Presales Specialist to help our customers unlock the full potential of our SaaS and data solutions. In this role, you’ll go beyond simple product demonstrations—you’ll work closely with sales teams and customers to deeply understand business challenges, identify real-world use cases, and demonstrate how our solution creates measurable value within their organization. Your enthusiasm, curiosity, and willingness to learn will help you grow as you bridge the gap between technology and business impact.
 
In this role, you will: 

Business-Focused Discovery:

  • Engage with customers to uncover their unique business challenges, workflows, and pain points.
  • Conduct discovery sessions focused on business outcomes, not just technical requirements.

Use Case Exploration & Solution Mapping:

  • Analyze customer environments to identify and propose relevant use cases for our solution.
  • Map product capabilities to customer business practices and strategic goals.

Value-Driven Demonstrations:

  • Deliver tailored product demonstrations that highlight how the solution addresses specific business needs and drives real value.
  • Showcase not only what the product does, but how it fits into and improves customer processes.

Collaboration with Sales & Vertical Teams:

  • Partner with sales and industry specialists to develop joint strategies for customer expansion.
  • Participate in account planning and customer meetings to ensure alignment on business objectives.

Customer Education & Enablement:

  • Educate customers on best practices, use cases, and the broader impact of the solution within their organization.
  • Support the creation of business cases and ROI analyses to help customers make informed decisions.

Feedback & Continuous Improvement:

  • Gather insights from customer interactions and share with Product and Engineering teams.
  • Document use cases and success stories for enablement and marketing.

Your background: 

  • Experience in a Pre Sales technical role prior
  • Enthusiasm for technology and a strong desire to learn.
  • Ability to understand and articulate business challenges and how technology can address them.
  • Some exposure to SaaS, data solutions, or database technologies.
  • Solid communication and presentation skills.
  • Curiosity and willingness to ask questions and explore new use cases.
  • Team player with a collaborative mindset.
  • Willingness to travel occasionally for customer meetings (if applicable).
  • Experience with customer discovery or business analysis.
  • Familiarity with CRM tools (Salesforce, HubSpot, etc.).
  • Customer-facing experience in any capacity.

Success Metrics

  • Customer satisfaction and business impact scores.
  • Number and quality of use cases identified and mapped to customer needs.
  • Contribution to successful enterprise deals and expansions.
  • Feedback from sales and technical teams on collaboration and support.
  • Continuous improvement in business acumen and solution mapping skills.
