Job Description

The Senior EH&S Engineer will oversee Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) programs to ensure compliance with national and local EHS laws and regulations. This site-based role involves establishing, implementing, and maintaining safe working practices, continuously improving occupational health and safety, and environmental management. Key responsibilities include policy and procedure management, legal compliance monitoring, risk assessment, incident management, safety inspections, emergency response support, training development, reporting, and waste management. The role requires strong leadership, independent work, effective communication, and the ability to influence stakeholders.
Must have:
  • 7-10 years of experience in EH&S coordination
  • Degree in Environmental/Safety Engineering or equivalent

  • Proficiency in computer applications (Excel, Word)

    Designation: Sr/Staff EH&S Engineer

    Overview: The Sr/Staff EH&S Engineer will oversee a range of Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) programs to ensure compliance with national and local EHS laws and regulations. This site-based role reports to the Regional EH&S Lead - South APAC. The primary goal is to establish, implement, and maintain safe working practices within the office premises, while continuously improving occupational health and safety and environmental management practices.

    Key Abilities:

    • Strong leadership skills to inspire and motivate site EHS team and the ability to influence stakeholders at all levels
    • Work independently and effectively partner, influence, and deliver results.
    • Understand regulatory EH&S requirements for their areas of responsibility.
    • Communicate effectively in both written and oral forms.
    • Adapt emerging best practices and industry innovations in EH&S compliance.
    • Drive standardization of practices and policies to improve process reliability and efficiency.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Policy and Procedure Management: Ensure all Environmental, Health, and Safety policies, procedures, rules, and regulations are adhered to, regularly reviewed, updated, and communicated to all employees.
    • Legal Compliance: Monitor and implement applicable statutory requirements to ensure legal compliance.
    • Health, Safety, and Welfare: Ensure the company meets its statutory obligations in all areas pertaining to health, safety, and welfare at work, including statutory training and reporting.
    • Risk Assessment: Monitor and assess risks and unsafe conditions in engineering labs, developing mitigation measures to control risks.
    • Incident Management: Document, investigate, and implement recommended improvements for all incidents.
    • Safety Inspections: Conduct annual audits and workplace & lab safety inspections, food safety inspections, etc., in coordination with stakeholders.
    • Emergency Response: Support the Emergency Response Team (ERT) program of the region and plan and implement emergency response strategies.
    • Training and Development: Develop and implement a structured EH&S training matrix at the site and coordinate EHS training programs.
    • Reporting: Provide regular reports to the EH&S Lead and Senior Management Team on relevant health and safety activities.
    • Documentation: Maintain all live documentation pertaining to the EH&S management system.
    • Health and Hygiene: Handle overall health and hygiene of employees, manage emergencies, and handle crises.
    • Consultation: Liaise with external health and safety consultants for training programs and health and safety services.
    • Fire and Life Safety: Oversee fire and life safety measures to ensure a safe working environment.
    • Contractor Safety: Ensure contractor safety compliance and oversee their adherence to safety protocols.
    • Personal Protective Equipment: Oversee the use and maintenance of personal protective equipment to ensure employee safety.
    • Construction Project Support: Support construction projects with EHS guidelines to ensure safety during project execution.
    • Waste Management: Manage waste and reporting processes to ensure environmental compliance.
    • Vendor Due Diligence: Conduct vendor due diligence to ensure they meet the company's EHS standards.

    Qualifications:

    • Education: Must possess a recognized degree in Environmental/Safety Engineering or an equivalent engineering stream, or a Master's/Diploma in industrial safety/industrial hygiene along with a regular engineering degree.
    • Experience: At least 7-10 years of experience in a corporate/manufacturing/service industry plant EH&S coordination level. Familiarity with accident investigation and prevention, applied ergonomics expertise, and in-depth understanding of Indian regulations. Prior experience in a corporate setup is an added advantage.
    • Skills:
      • Team building and relationship building skills to establish relationships at all levels within the organization.
      • Result-oriented with a sense of urgency to follow up on corrective measures and drive the right issues.
      • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills for conducting training, facilitating team meetings, updating on safety-related issues, and providing relevant reports.
      • Proficient computer skills, especially in applications such as Excel, databases, Word, and web-based systems.

    Location: The resource will be based out of Hyderabad and will involve traveling to sites outside Hyderabad as needed.
