Seeking Senior Trading Desk Operations Engineers with OCaml experience to coordinate with internal infrastructure groups and external parties on trading windows, trade booking, and resolving breaks. Responsibilities include monitoring trading systems, maintaining spreadsheets and databases for real-time pricing, interpreting large datasets, developing workflows for new trading strategies, and building tools to improve financial instrument trading across global markets. Leverage expertise in Excel, VBA, Unix, Bash, OCaml, PostgreSQL, and Python to enhance technological infrastructure. Improve trading desk operational efficiency, support various trades and orders, manage procedural workflows, and liaise with internal teams (Operations, Compliance, Finance, etc.) and external parties (Prime Brokers, Clearing Firms). Train junior engineers and participate in recruiting.
Must have:
  • 3 or 4 year Bachelor's degree
  • 2 years experience as Trading Desk Operations Specialist or similar
  • Knowledge of trading desk activities
  • Experience with Excel, VBA, UNIX, Bash, PostgreSQL, OCaml
  • Experience collecting market information
  • Monitoring trading technology systems

Senior Trading Desk Operations Engineers

OCaml Experience

Jane Street Group, LLC has openings for Senior Trading Desk Operations Engineers - multiple openings in New York, NY.

The position duties are as follows:  Responsible for coordinating with members of the internal infrastructure groups (Operations, Compliance, etc.) as well as external parties regarding issues such as monitoring trading windows, properly booking trades, and resolving breaks to ensure that all trades are reflected accurately in all systems. Day-to-day job duties include:

  • Working closely with Traders, using discretion to identify relevant market information, independently monitoring the proper functioning of proprietary trading systems, maintaining complex spreadsheets and databases that are crucial to real time pricing, interpreting and presenting large datasets, developing new workflows in collaboration with trading desk heads for new trading strategies, and identifying and building tools or processes that improve the firm’s ability to trade financial instruments across global markets;
  • Leveraging deep knowledge of Excel, VBA, Unix, Bash, OCaml, PostgreSQL, and Python to identify inefficiencies in and create quantitative tools to improve the firm’s technological infrastructure, and liaise with internal tech teams to ensure collaborative progress on larger technological projects;
  • Monitoring and actively improving the trading desk’s operational efficiency, supporting the facilitation of many different kinds of trades and orders,  owning certain procedural workflows such as making sure transactions are booked correctly and settled, managing communications with internal groups such as Operations, Post-trade, Compliance, Finance and Margin, P&L, Reconciliation, various tech teams and other trading desks, evaluating interactions with external groups such as Prime Brokers, Clearing Firms and trading counterparties with an eye towards identifying and rectifying operational inefficiencies and proposing general improvements to operational methodology; and
  • Training Junior TDOS on the trading desk’s operational structure, technological infrastructure and culture, and participating in recruiting. 

Part-time telecommuting may be permitted with manager approval.

The position requires a 3 or 4 year Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics, Quantitative Finance, Computer Science or a closely related quantitative field or foreign equivalent plus two (2) years of experience as a Trading Desk Operations Specialist, Trading Desk Operations Engineer, or related position at a quantitative trading firm. Experience must include:

  1. 2 years of experience applying knowledge of trading desk activities including operational issues and booking and reporting of trades, monitoring trade settlement, locating stock loans, instructing creations and redemptions of ETF units, and reconciling positions between the firm and external parties; 
  2. 2 years of experience working with various technologies including Excel, VBA, UNIX, Bash, PostgreSQL, and OCaml; 
  3. 2 years of experience collecting market information to pass through to Traders, and monitoring technology systems that facilitated trading of financial instruments across global markets.
