The Associate Dimensional Designer will develop tools, techniques, and systems that support the design and delivery process at Walt Disney Imagineering.
You will functionally report to the Manager Dimensional Design
This is a Project Hire position without any guarantee of permanent placement.
What You Will Do
• Assist team wherever needed, using basic model building skills
• Communicate with more senior level Dimensional Designers for status updates of schedule progress, design inputs required, completion of design milestones, etc. Take direction from more experienced Dimensional Designers to build physical models
• Learn the art of three dimensional and digital model building
• Confirm design interface with Creative, A&E and D&P disciplines
• Partners with dimensional design team in model efforts
• Supports mock-up and staging efforts as required
• Reports on design and production progress to schedule and budget to senior team leadership
• Develop a knowledge of available resources and how to use them effectively in order to meet objectives
• Develop leadership skills to work in team environment
• Participate in peer review sessions
• Discretion to make decisions on duties within defined scope of work
Required Qualifications & Skills
• Previous practical applied experience in model building, intern experience or related experience in entertainment industry.
• Some architectural model making background preferred (digital and/or physical models)
• Have basic understanding of drawings
• Have basic skills in using hand and power tools
• Need to have basic knowledge of the use of hand tools. Able to translate two dimensional information into three dimensional format
• Able to take direction and work well within a team
• Must be flexible and adaptable, detailed, dependable and enjoy working in a team environment
• Travel may be required
Preferred Qualifications
• Some experience in theater, theme park design, production and installation preferred.
• Appreciation for an integrated design experience with multiple disciplines
Education
• Degree in theater, fine arts or environmental design preferred, not required
