Job Details

The Senior Sales Engineer will be a key technical resource for both our Business Development and Account Management teams, contributing significantly to our product strategy and supplier relationships. This role requires a seasoned Electrical Engineer with a strong understanding of product development lifecycles, supplier collaboration, and market trends within the industrial sector, ideally with experience in industrial lighting and manufacturing. The Senior Sales Engineer will be responsible for identifying emerging product trends and technologies, evaluating the engineering and manufacturing capabilities of potential and existing suppliers, and working with small to mid-size manufacturers to secure distribution agreements. This individual will also be instrumental in product modification and reverse engineering efforts, leveraging their proficiency in 3D and 2D design tools. This position demands a proactive individual with strong analytical skills, technical acumen, and the ability to translate market insights into actionable product development strategies.

YOUR ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Product Development Leadership: Drive and contribute to product development initiatives, from concept to launch, leveraging deep electrical engineering expertise.
  • Strategic Supplier Collaboration: Strategically collaborate with suppliers and manufacturers on product development, modification, and manufacturing processes, ensuring alignment with SSI's quality standards and market needs.
  • Technical Design & Engineering: Utilize high-level proficiency in both 3D and 2D design tools to support product development, product modification, and reverse engineering projects.
  • Market Intelligence & Trend Identification: Proactively identify emerging product trends, new technologies, and gain a deep understanding of market product intelligence to inform product strategy.
  • Supplier Capability Assessment: Evaluate the engineering and manufacturing capabilities of current and potential suppliers to identify opportunities for product modifications, new product development, and efficient manufacturing processes.
  • New Manufacturer Identification & Onboarding: Identify and engage with small to mid-size manufacturers to explore potential distribution partnerships, aligning with SSI’s strategic product expansion goals.
  • Technical Support for Sales Teams: Serve as a critical technical resource and point of contact for the Business Development and Account Management teams, providing expertise on product specifications, applications, and competitive landscapes.
  • Product Modification & Reverse Engineering: Lead or contribute to product modification projects based on market feedback and technical feasibility, and conduct reverse engineering analysis as needed.
  • Technical Training & Education: Develop and deliver technical training materials and presentations for internal teams and potentially key customers.
  • Collaboration with Internal Teams: Work closely with Product Management, Quality Assurance, and other internal departments to ensure successful product development and implementation.
  • Technical Documentation: Create and maintain comprehensive technical documentation, including specifications, drawings, and testing protocols.
  • Industry Awareness: Stay abreast of industry standards, regulations, and technological advancements in electrical engineering and industrial lighting.
  • Other duties as assigned.

HOW TO SUCCEED / YOUR PROFILE

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering is required.
  • Minimum of 5-7 years of progressive experience in product development, engineering, or a related technical role within a manufacturing environment.
  • Proven track record of successful collaboration with suppliers and manufacturers on product development initiatives.
  • Demonstrated high-level proficiency in both 3D and 2D design tools (specify preferred software if applicable).
  • Experience in product modification and reverse engineering processes.
  • Strong understanding of market dynamics and the ability to identify emerging product trends and technologies.
  • Experience in the industrial lighting industry and/or manufacturing sector is highly preferred.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Ability to travel as needed to visit suppliers, manufacturers, and attend industry events.
