Job Description

The Software Engineering Manager will lead software engineering developers focused on AI and Data Science, creating containerized microservice software products. This role involves leading the Application Development team, focusing on training, hiring, solution development, software design standards, best practices, and architectures. The manager will also be responsible for managing and coaching a high-performing engineering team using agile methodologies, contributing to technical design solutions, and interfacing with customers.
Must have:
  • Bachelor's or Master's Degree in engineering or computer science.
  • Minimum of 8 years of software engineering experience.
Good to have:
  • Experience working with JavaScript frameworks (Angular, React, Vue).
  • Experience with RESTful APIs (Flask, Node.js, or C# .Net).
  • Familiarity with geospatial data using GDAL, Geoserver, etc.
  • Familiarity with database systems like PostgreSQL, MongoDB.
  • Experience with container runtime environments like Docker and Kubernetes.
  • Experience with event messaging brokers such as Kafka and RabbitMQ.
  • Deploying software to cloud platforms using containerized software modules in DevSecOps pipelines

Summary 

Seeking an engineering manager to lead software engineering developers focused on AI and Data Science creating containerized micro service software products with disciplines in simulator synthetic environments, flight training, or mission planning and awarenessThis individual will act as a lead contributor for the Application Development team, focusing on training, hiring, solution development, software design standards, best practices, and architectures.   

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Directly managing and coaching a high-performing engineering team using agile methodologies 

  • Supports the interview process and staffing based on skillsets 

  • Works with cloud based full-stack application development 

  • Using cutting edge software to solve complex problems for company IR&D and Department of Defense projects 

  • Resource management within Engineering, including training and career development 

  • Contributes to the technical design solutions for proposal of contracts  

  • Interfaces with the customer to provide technical direction, documentation, and iterative demonstration of capabilities 

  • Supervisory and performance responsibility for direct reports 

  • Oversight of execution in compliance with company policies and procedures 

 

Qualifications and Education Requirements 

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in engineering, software, or computer science 

  • Minimum of 8 years of software engineering experience or a Master’s degree in engineering or computer science with 5 years of software engineering experience 

  • Must be eligible for DoD Security Clearance 

  • Due to U.S. Government contract requirements, only U.S. citizens are eligible for this role. 

Preferred Skills 

These following skills will be used in this position based on the taskThese are nice to have skills and the candidate will have training opportunities to gain these capabilities if needed. 

 

  • Experience working with at least one modern JavaScript framework, Angular, React, Vue, etc. 

  • Experience working with RESTful APIs such as Flask, Node.js, or C# ASP .Net  

  • Familiarity working with geospatial data using GDAL, Geoserver, OpenLayers, Leaflet, or Cesium 

  • Familiarity with database systems like PostgreSQL, MongoDB, etc. 

  • Experience with container runtime environments such as Docker and container-orchestration systems such as Kubernetes 

  • Experience with event messaging brokers such as Kafka and RabbitMQ 

  • Deploying software to cloud platforms using containerized software modules in DevSecOps pipelines 

 

Security Responsibilities 

Must comply with all company security and data protection / usage policies and procedures.  Personally responsible for proper marking and handling of all information and materials, in any form. Shall not divulge any information, or afford access, to other employees not having a need-to-know. Shall not divulge information outside company without management approval.  All government and proprietary information will be accessed and stored electronically on company provided resources.  

  •  Incumbent must be eligible for DoD Personal Security Clearance.

Work Environment 

This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.
