Job Description

Telstra is seeking a Staff Software Engineer specializing in Java Microservices to design and build Java/Spring Boot applications leveraging microservice architecture. The role involves designing technical architecture solutions across multiple domains, managing the development lifecycle for secure, performant, and scalable solutions, and articulating design considerations. Responsibilities include monitoring development processes, critical thinking, strong accountability, and collaboration with geographically distributed teams. The engineer will also provide training, develop and maintain web SPAs using ReactJS, optimize components, write clean code, participate in code reviews, and integrate external SDKs and APIs. Experience with biometric and facial recognition features is also part of the role, along with leading teams and conducting code reviews.

What You’ll Do

  • Design/Build Java/Spring boot application and leverage Microservice architecture

  • Design technical architecture solutions that span multiple domains (Sales, Service, Marketing, Analytics, Social, and Communities) and include integration and authentication across systems.

  • Manage the development lifecycle to ensure the delivery of highly secure solutions that are optimized for performance and built to scale.

  • Articulate design considerations, trade-offs, benefits, and recommendations for technical architecture.

  • Monitor the process of software configuration/development/testing to assure quality deliverables.

  • Critical thinking mindset, a strong sense of accountability for product delivery, passion to develop quality software.

  • Good communication skills and team player

  • Experience working (or willing to work) with a geographically distributed team.

  • Provide training and educate other team members about core capabilities and helps them deliver high-quality solutions and deliverables/documentation.

  • Develop and maintain multiple Identity strategic web SPA using ReactJS.

  • Collaborate with designers and backend developers to implement new features and perform Proof-of-concepts (POC).

  • Optimize components for maximum performance across a vast array of web-capable devices and browsers.

  • Write clean, maintainable, configurable and efficient code.

  • Participate in code reviews and contribute to team and personal learning.

  • Build reusable components and front-end libraries for future use

  • Translate designs and wireframes into high quality code

  • Carry out application state management with Redux or similar libraries

  • Work closely with product management and back-end developers to integrate user-facing elements with server-side logic

  • Keep up-to-date with the latest industry trends and technologies to ensure applications are current and competitive

  • Integrate external SDKs and APIs to enhance application functionality.

  • Implement biometric and facial recognition features within web applications.

  • Leading team and developers and conduct code reviews.

  • Have the ability to work as Engineering lead.

About You

Essential:

  • Degree-level IT qualifications in Software or Systems Engineering.

  • Programming languages: Java 17+ (Expert) / JavaScript (expert-level)

  • Strong hands-on experience in development and testing using microservice/lightweight containers & frameworks such as Spring Boot

  • Experience in cloud platform such as AWS/Azure cloud services serverless computing (lambda,step functions, Glue), RDS, DynamoDB, S3, SQS, SNS, kinesis etc

  • Deep technical knowledge of microservices, web development frameworks and APIs.

  • Strong hands-on experience in development on Ping Identity Products  such as Ping Access , Ping Federate , Ping DataGov , Ping Directory 

  • OAuth2, OIDC, SAML, JWT based Authentication, federated identity management, 2 FA patterns.

  • External SDKs: Proven experience integrating and working with external SDKs and APIs.

  • Biometric and Facial Recognition: Hands-on experience with biometric and facial recognition technologies, including relevant SDKs and APIs.

  • OIDC Libraries: Strong working experience with OIDC libraries and various authentication and authorization mechanisms like OpenID Connect, FAPI 2.0 standards.

  • Authentication Protocols: Thorough understanding of authentication protocols and standards.

  • RESTful APIs: Deep experience with RESTful APIs.

  • Authorization Mechanisms: Knowledge of modern authorization mechanisms, such as JSON Web Token.

  • Understanding of design patterns and ability to show expertise in applying design patterns. 

  • Involved in the design and implementation of secure, scalable, fault-tolerant systems in the cloud.

  • Experience with SQL and NoSQL DBs  

  • Understands CI/CD process and has experience with at least 1 build server (e.g. bamboo, GitLab ci, Jenkins, etc)

  • Well-versed with Linux

  • Technical Translation: Ability to understand business requirements and translate them into technical requirements.

  • Benchmarking and Optimization: A knack for benchmarking and optimization.

  • Accessible Components: Extensive experience in developing accessible components that comply with WCAG standards.

  • Accessibility Standards: Deep understanding of Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) and best practices for ensuring web accessibility.

Highly desirable:

  • Domain knowledge of Telecom

  • Experience in NoSQL database such as Couchbase, MongoDB etc.

  • Understanding of Security (Authentication and Authorization) 

  • Experience with code analysis and test automation tools, security testing tools

  • Understanding of Security (Authentication and Authorisation)

  • APIGEE or Nginx or similar API gateway experience.

  • Exposure on monitoring tools such as CloudWatch, NewRelic, Splunk and Pager duty

  • Experience with design patterns, architecture, secure coding

  • Has contributed to developing and maintaining agile and CI/CD process within a project.

  • Understanding of change management principles and experience in production support

  • Well-versed with Linux/Windows
