Larian Studios is seeking an Associate-Lead Environment Artist to join their team and contribute to crafting high-caliber role-playing games. The role involves leadership and mentorship of team members, artistic direction and quality control of art assets, and defining/optimizing production workflows. Responsibilities also include cross-departmental collaboration with teams like Level Design and Lighting, project and resource management, problem-solving, and hands-on art creation. The ideal candidate will have 5+ years of experience as a 3D environment artist, proficiency in 3D tools, strong communication skills, and experience with game editors like Unreal Engine or Unity.
Must have:
  • 5+ years of hands-on experience as a 3D environment artist
  • Skilled with 3D tools, sculpting, and texturing software
  • Strong communication skills in English
  • Experience with game editors for asset integration and level creation
  • Experience with both level art and 3D asset creation
Good to have:
  • Experience with photogrammetry
  • Comfortable using Marvelous Designer, SpeedTree, or Houdini
  • Knowledge of building procedural workflows
  • Background in traditional art
  • Combination of artistic flair with technical know-how
  • Leadership/mentorship experience

With multiple awards to our name, Larian Studios has proven that we’re dedicated to delivering high-quality role-playing games. As we move on to new projects, the studio that brought you Baldur’s Gate 3 & Divinity: Original Sin 2 is looking for a Associate-Lead Environment Artist to join the team and help us in crafting the high calibre games our fans have come to expect.

Responsibilities

    • Leadership and Mentorship: regular check up with team members, ability to help team members with career development.
    • Artistic Direction and Quality Control: review art created by your team, both from a directional artistic and technical perspective.
    • Pipeline and Technical Development: define and optimize production workflows for both asset creation and level art. 
    • Cross-Department Collaboration: work closely with other departments such as Level design, Lighting, Graphic programmers, Tools development, etc. 
    • Project and Resource Management: prioritize and delegate tasks effectively, recruitment and onboarding new team members.
    • Problem-Solving and Innovation: find innovative ways to push visual fidelity, along with helping develop tools and techniques to streamline production. 
    • Hands-on execution: allocate time to still get hands-on with creating/refining art yourself. 

Requirements

    • 5+ years of hands-on experience as a 3D environment artist.
    • Skilled with 3D tools, sculpting, and texturing software and it shows in your work.
    • Strong communication skills in English, both written and spoken.
    • Experience with game editors for asset integration and level creation. Our tools are proprietary, but familiarity with Unreal Engine or Unity can translate over.
    • Experience with both level art and 3D asset creation

Nice to have

    • Experience with photogrammetry from scanning to processing and cleanup.
    • You’re comfortable using tools like Marvelous Designer, SpeedTree, or Houdini.
    • Knowledge of building procedural workflows to streamline and enhance your work.
    • A background in traditional art helps you bring ideas to life whether through painting, sketching, or quick visual exploration.
    • Combination of artistic flair with technical know-how, with a solid grasp of composition, shape, scale, color, and lighting to create compelling environments.
    • Leadership/mentorship experience.
