Job Description

Scout Motors is seeking an Engineer, Front Frame Structures to revolutionize the electric pick-up truck and rugged SUV market. The role involves being responsible for the ladder frame structure of all new products, from concept to launch. Key responsibilities include creating and optimizing CAD data for the ladder frame structure, considering cost, functionality, weight, and manufacturability. The engineer will collaborate with suppliers and engineering service providers, as well as internal teams to foster a collaborative culture. The position requires developing CAD data for virtual and physical verification testing, ensuring designs meet safety standards and U.S. government regulations, and proactively proposing system improvements based on consumer experience. Resource management, including infrastructure, financial, supplier partners, and people, is also a key aspect of the role. The company emphasizes integrity, curiosity, resourcefulness, a positive attitude, and a growth mindset, with a preference for candidates comfortable with change in a fast-paced environment.
Must have:
  • 4+ years of experience in body mechanical areas and ladder frame structure
  • Expert in CATIA V5 (3D parametric models and 2D drawings)
  • Strong technical skills and problem-solving abilities
  • Ability to lead simultaneous engineering teams
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in engineering or relevant field
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
Good to have:
  • Familiarity with computer-aided engineering (CAE) or direct experience
  • Good knowledge of MS Office products

What you’ll do

Become part of an iconic brand that is set to revolutionize the electric pick-up truck & rugged SUV marketplace by achieving the following:

  • Responsible for the ladderframe structure all new products. You will cover from clean sheet of paper through virtual development, testing/sign-off and manufacturing launch for all Scout all-electric pick-up and rugged SUVs.
  • Creating the CAD-Data of the ladderframe structure
  • Optimize the CAD-Data with respect to cost, functionality, weight, and manufacturability.
  • Working together with suppliers and engineering service providers.
  • Be a part of a diverse team while fostering a collaborative and high-performance culture.
  • Develop CAD data for virtual and physical verification testing, including field testing.
  • Ensure designs conform to safety standards and U.S. government regulations.
  • Proactively stay attuned to consumer experience and propose system improvements accordingly.
  • Manage resources efficiently including infrastructure, financial, supplier partners and people.

Location & Travel Expectations:

  • This role will be based out of the Scout Motors location in Novi, Michigan.
  • The responsibilities of this role require 3-4 days attendance in office with in-person meetings and events regularly.
  • Applicants should expect that the role will require the ability to convene with Scout colleagues in person and travel to participate in events on behalf of the company from time to time.

  • Education/Certifications: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, systems engineering, engineering management or a relevant field
  • Years of Experience required in type of role: 4+ years of experience in body mechanical areas and ladderframe structure
  • Communication: Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Expert in CATIA V5. Including the ability to make 3D parametric models and 2D drawings
  • Strong technical skills and expertise to problem-solving
  • Ability to lead simultaneous engineering teams
  • Good knowledge of MS Office products
  • Familiarity with computer-aided engineering (CAE) or direct experience in this field.
  • The ability to build strong working relationships with individuals at all organizational levels.

Pay Transparency

This is a full-time, exempt position eligible to receive a base salary and to participate in an annual performance bonus program. Final salary offered will be determined based on factors including but not limited to the candidate's skills and experience. The annual performance bonus program is preset and not candidate dependent.
