As an Events Technical Director, you will be responsible for delivering technical excellence for key activities at the Customer Insight Centre (CIC) in Sydney. This involves working with stakeholders to create exceptional customer experiences. Key responsibilities include planning and executing technical aspects of hybrid and virtual events, managing AV systems, resolving technical issues, collaborating with suppliers, and implementing innovative technical solutions. You will also be required to maintain documentation, manage inventory, provide operational support, and foster collaboration within the team. The role requires a proactive approach to maintaining operational technologies and ensuring business continuity.
Must have:
  • Experience in event AV and broadcast environments

About the Role

  • As a Events Technical Director, you will deliver technical executional excellence for key activities conducted at the Customer Insight Centre (CIC) Sydney, working with key stakeholders across the organisation to deliver world class customer experiences and events. Working closely with the wider Workplace team and every part of the business you act as an enabler for creating highly relevant and digital first approaches that will inform, inspire and delight customers.

What You’ll Do

  • Technical Expertise: Serve as the go-to Technical Director for events and productions at the Sydney CIC, offering expert technical guidance and support to both internal and external customers.
  • Event Planning and Execution: Plan and execute all technical aspects for large-scale hybrid and virtual events, as well as broadcast productions, ensuring seamless technical operations.
  • AV System Management: Provide expert support for Technical, Virtual Platform, Video Conferencing, and A/V system requirements during customer demonstrations, meetings, and major events hosted at the CIC.
  • Technical Issue Resolution: Act as the primary point of contact for technical issues and equipment failures within the CIC, conducting immediate assessments and diagnostics to determine appropriate resolutions.
  • Supplier Collaboration: Collaborate with external suppliers and providers to efficiently resolve technical issues, always seeking cost-effective solutions and minimizing downtime.
  • Innovative Solutions: Lead projects to introduce new technical solutions within the CIC, continually exploring opportunities for improvement and supporting new projects.
  • Fault Reporting and Recommendations: Utilize existing systems to report and document all technical faults and service requests, offering recommendations to address recurring issues.
  • Adherence to Best Practices: Ensure adherence to best practices, policies, and procedures within the CIC to maintain operational excellence and a proactive approach to maintaining operational technologies.
  • Documentation Management: Maintain relevant and up-to-date technical documentation to ensure business continuity in the event of personnel changes or emergencies.
  • Inventory Control: Keep the inventory register accurate and current by following established asset control processes, guaranteeing the availability of necessary equipment and resources.
  • Operational Support: Provide operational support for events outside of normal working hours as required, ensuring the technical success of all CIC activities.
  • Collaboration and Teamwork: Foster a culture of collaboration within the CIC, championing cooperation and synergy with other functions to deliver exceptional experiences to our customers.

About You

You will be bringing these skills and experiences to be successful in the role:

  • Solid experience in event AV and broadcast environments
  • Strong problem-solving and diagnostic skills, with the ability to swiftly address and resolve technical issues.
  • Experience in virtual and hybrid event delivery.
  • Strong knowledge of video standards with experience in routing and mixing.
  • Solid audio patching and mixing background in corporate and broadcast environments.
  • Good knowledge of networking and video conferencing is preferable.
  • Exceptional customer service skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to interact effectively with senior executive personnel.
  • A personality that strives for exceptional standards.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan individual and functional workload activities.
  • Ability to identify and implement innovative solutions to day-to-day operational issues.
  • A willingness to learn and be coached on presentation capabilities and demonstrations as required.
  • Ability to work effectively with minimal supervision and excellent self-management skills.
  • Excellent team player with the ability to work effectively within a small team environment.

Highly desirable qualification(s):

  • Technical tertiary education
  • Experience working as a technical director with an A/V production organization
