The Senior Cost Accountant will be responsible for planning, organizing, and controlling the accounting of U.S. based manufacturing activities. This role involves reviewing cost standards, overseeing manufacturing budgets, analyzing financial data, preparing journal entries, and preparing reports. The accountant will collaborate with operations teams to improve financial opportunities. The job holder will also provide support in the development of product costing module in new implementation of SAP S/4HANA and model capital investments used in manufacturing locations. The position requires strong analytical skills and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
Must have:
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance
  • Experience with Standard Costing practices
  • Experience with ERP system (SAP critical)
  • Analyzing past results and making recommendations

Plans, organizes, and controls the Accounting of the U.S. based manufacturing activities of the Measurements and Control Solutions division.  Supports the  Manufacturing, Engineering, Purchasing and Logistics organizations, acting as a business partner to facilitate decision-making.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities


• Review cost standards, including maintaining periodic cost rolls and annual updates. Ensure the use of consistent methodology and provide key factors driving change.

• Oversee the annual manufacturing budgets and forecasts for short- and long-range operating objectives, organizational structure, and staffing requirements for manufacturing and engineering operating teams.

• Work closely with operations team to help deliver their business objectives by driving the high leverage financial opportunities, such as increased capacity utilization, material cost savings, streamlined logistics, product/process cost optimization, working capital reduction, capital effectiveness and restructuring/sourcing projects.

• Provide financial analysis to all aspects of these organizations, including but not limited to gross margin analysis, labor, and overhead cost analysis.

• Prepare various journal entries, review month-end balance sheets, ensure monthly assessments and settlements are accurate and timely, review cut-off procedures, and run and reconcile OneStream reports.

• Analyze actual manufacturing costs and prepare periodic reports comparing standard costs to actual production costs; review manufacturing variances (PPV, POV) and manufacturing absorption analysis reports.

• Oversee global reporting, planning, and forecasting of Indirect Cost of Sales for all manufacturing locations.

• Compare performance with operating plans and standards.  Provides reports and interprets the results of operations to all levels of management.  This includes the formulation of accounting policies, the preparation of financial statements and operating data, the coordination of systems and procedures, and special reports as required.

• Provide support in the development of product costing module in new implementation of SAP S/4HANA. 

• Model Capital investments used in our manufacturing locations for costs and savings.  Track and report on results.

• Acts within scope of authority and consistent with Company objectives, guidelines, policies, and practices.

• Other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field of study required.  MBA, CPA, CMA desirable.

• Prior experience with Standard Costing practices within manufacturing environment required.

• 5 to 8 years’ experience analyzing past results, performing variance analysis, identifying trends, and making recommendations for improvements to senior management.

• 5 to 8 years’ experiences ideally gained through providing decision support for growth initiatives and strategic planning within a global manufacture operation.

• Experience with ERP system required; SAP critical.

• Working knowledge of manual and automated accounting systems, well-developed financial analysis capabilities, and demonstrated ability to manage micro computer operations and applications.
