Job Description

The Advanced Procurement Engineering Specialist will drive sourcing strategies into new product development, create cost reduction opportunities, and collaborate with engineering teams. Responsibilities include analyzing the Bill of Materials, identifying and managing components, performing risk buy analysis, developing sourcing strategies, and driving design-to-cost initiatives. The role involves participating in meetings, coordinating with cross-functional teams, and contributing to cost-reduction efforts in mass production. The specialist will ensure timely documentation and component releases to facilitate prompt purchase orders and support from other cross functions.
Must have:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, preferably in Electrical/Electronics
  • Strong fundamentals in Electrical / Electronics Engineering.
  • Ability to resolve critical technical problems effectively.
Good to have:
  • Exposure in BESS Industry
  • Experience in working with strategic suppliers.

About the position:
Location: Houston, TX, or Arlington, VA (Hybrid—2-3 days in the office)

The Advanced Procurement Engineering Specialist will play a pivotal role in driving Sourcing Strategies into the New Product Development early in the design phase in collaboration with multi-functional teams to achieve outcomes that align with the overall objectives, Competitiveness and Speed. You will create Cost-Reduction-Opportunities in the products in Mass-Production, work with Sustaining and Engineering teams for their validations, and coordinate all activities for their implementation.        

This role will:
• Perform Long-Lead-Time (LLT) analysis of the Bill-of-Material (BOM), early in the Design-Phase of New Product Development.
• Identify and manage Single-Source and Sole-Source Components in the BOM under development.
• Create and maintain approved component and vendor lists in collaboration with Category Managers and Product Engineering.
• Perform Risk-Buy analysis for components to avoid delays in Product Launch.
• Identify second source components for components in the BOM
• Collaborate with Category Managers to develop sourcing strategies and drive implementation in new product developments
• Drive design-to-cost with product design Engineering in choosing most economical components through Techno-Commercial benchmarking
• Works with Design Engineering to ensure On-Time documentation and release of the component to ensure On-Time release of the POs.
• Participates in weekly Program Execution Team (PET) meetings to update actions from Procurement & Supply-Chain perspectives and coordinate support from other cross-functions.
• Create and drive Cost-Reduction-Opportunities from products in Mass-Production

What will our ideal candidate bring to Fluence?

    • The preferred candidate should have a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering with 8+ years of experience or a Master’s degree with 6+ years of experience, preferably in Electrical / Electronics Engineering.
    • Strong Fundamentals in Electrical / Electronics Engineering is required to understand all requirements from the Design team.
    • Ability to resolve Critical Technical problems, effectively and efficiently, by coordinating Technical conversations between suppliers and design experts required.
    • Exposure in BESS Industry would be a plus.
    • Experience in working with strategic suppliers to bring in new technologies into products.
    • Flexibility in working in domestic and international teams with diversified functions in different time-zones required.
    • Strong technical, analytic and oral/written communication skills required.
