AECOM is seeking a Program Manager to lead New York Metro programs and projects. This role involves providing engineering technical leadership for the Vertical Transportation group, coordinating with contractors on Design Build opportunities, and collaborating with other disciplines. The Program Manager will make authoritative decisions and recommendations, initiate and maintain contacts with senior engineers and key officials at various agencies. Responsibilities include anticipating and solving complex engineering problems, determining program objectives, organizing programs and projects, and developing team standards and guidelines. The role also involves leading by example, mentoring, and coaching team members to develop future leadership. Key duties include overseeing the production of drawings and specifications for vertical transportation projects, developing design concepts, calculating lift requirements for all building types, designing and overseeing elevators, escalators, and moving walkways, including retrofitting into existing congested systems. The position requires undertaking lift traffic analysis using software like Elevate®, producing reports, inspecting installations, witnessing site testing, supporting the Vertical Transportation team, conducting site surveys, and attending design team and client meetings. The Program Manager will also implement safety policies, oversee work contracts for vertical transportation systems and electrical demolition/installation, and manage project scope, timeline, and budget for qualifying contract bidding companies. Developing comprehensive project plans for stakeholders is also a responsibility.

Job Description

AECOM is actively seeking a Program Manager to lead New York Metro programs and projects. 

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Provide engineering technical leadership for the Vertical Transportation group and coordinate with contractors on Design Build opportunities as well as other disciplines.
  • Make decisions and recommendations that are recognized as authoritative.
  • Candidate will initiate and maintain extensive contacts with senior- level engineers within the company and with key engineering officials at various agencies and authorities.
  • Candidate will utilize relativity, foresight, and senior engineering judgment in anticipating and solving both routine and unusual engineering problems.
  • Candidate will also determine program objectives and requirements, organize programs and projects, and develop standards and guidelines for the team.
  • Candidate will lead by example and provide guidance that will develop future leadership by mentoring and coaching members of the team.
  • Overseeing production of drawings and specifications for vertical transportation projects.
  • Developing vertical transportation design concepts, calculating number, size and speed of lifts for all types of buildings including high rise.
  • Designing and providing design oversight of elevators, escalators, and moving walkways and retrofitting these into existing facilities with very congested existing systems and infrastructure.
  • Undertaking lift traffic analysis, ideally utilizing Elevate® Producing reports including conceptual design, scheme design and preparation of reports at key RIBA design stages of projects.
  • Overseeing production of drawings and specifications for vertical transportation projects.
  • Inspecting installations and witnessing testing on site.
  • Supporting the wider activities of the Vertical Transportation team.
  • Undertaking site surveys and producing resultant reports.
  • Attending design team and client meetings as required.
  • Understanding and implementing company Safety Health and Environment Policies.
  • Maintaining and overseeing the extensive work contracts for elevators, escalators, moving walkways, and building electrical demolition and installation on behalf of the client and AECOM
  • Managing project scope, timeline, and budget in alignment with company objectives for qualifying contract bidding companies such as Otis, ThyssenKrupp, Schindler, and Kone
  • Developing comprehensive project plans to be shared with the stakeholder

Qualifications

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor's degree + 10 years of related Vertical Transportation Experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Be able to design and deliver vertical transport solutions on major and/or complex projects
  • A strong analytical knowledge and understanding of engineering principles
  • The ability to communicate clearly, through sketching, speaking and in writing, with client s and design teams
  • Proven experience of undertaking vertical Transportation Design, using passenger traffic analysis software where appropriate
  • Experience maintaining and overseeing the extensive work contracts for elevators, escalators, moving walkways, and terminal building electrical demolition and installation on behalf of the clients and AECOM  
  • Experience with companies such as Otis, ThyssenKrupp, Schindler, and Kone, 
  • Excellent planning, organizational and time management skills, with a proven ability to work under pressure and to meet strict deadlines
  • Able to understand the balance of engineering priorities on differing projects
  • Able to quickly develop successful client relationships
  • Advanced knowledge and experience in utilizing design software including passenger traffic analysis software (ELEVATE) CADD, BIM, Revit, Word, Excel and Outlook
  • Extensive vertical transportation experience and preferably come from a lift contracting or consulting background
  • Familiarity and experience with MTA standards and guidelines
  • Qualified Elevator Inspector Certification or ability to obtain 
  •  NVQ4, HNC or equivalent Lift or appropriate engineering qualification
