Tide is seeking a Senior Legal Counsel - Commercial Contracts to support its growth by providing expert legal guidance. This role involves drafting, negotiating, and advising on a wide range of commercial agreements, primarily vendor and partnership contracts, ensuring strategic alignment, risk awareness, and commercial soundness. The position requires strong stakeholder management, commercial judgment, and the ability to work autonomously and collaboratively. The Senior Legal Counsel will work closely with cross-functional teams, offering pragmatic legal advice, enhancing legal processes, and shaping frameworks for Tide's scale and success. Key responsibilities include managing pre-award and post-award contract phases, leading complex negotiations, mentoring junior legal professionals, and collaborating with marketing, procurement, finance, and product teams.
Must have:
  • 5+ years PQE in commercial contract law

ABOUT THE ROLE

As Senior Legal Counsel – Commercial Contracts, you’ll report to Tide’s Lead Commercial Counsel and play a pivotal role in supporting our growth through expert legal guidance. You’ll draft, negotiate, and advise on a broad range of commercial agreements—primarily vendor and partnership contracts—ensuring they are strategically aligned, risk-aware, and commercially sound.

This high-impact role requires strong stakeholder management, sound commercial judgment, and the ability to operate both autonomously and collaboratively. You’ll work closely with cross-functional teams, offering pragmatic, business-enabling legal advice. Beyond contract support, you’ll help enhance legal processes and contribute to shaping the frameworks that underpin Tide’s ongoing scale and success.

As Senior Legal Counsel – Commercial Contracts, you will be:

  • Work across both the pre-award and post-award phases of commercial contract management, including: independently drafting, reviewing, and negotiating a wide range of commercial contracts - such as Master Services Agreements (MSAs), Statements of Work (SOWs), commercial partnership and referral agreements, as well as amendment and renewal agreements; and leading more complex and strategic negotiations.
  • Providing guidance and mentorship to junior legal professionals, serving as a point of escalation for complex legal issues, and actively facilitating knowledge sharing and best practices within the legal team.
  • Collaborating closely with various teams, including marketing, procurement, finance, and product, to provide practical legal advice that advances Tide’s commercial objectives.  
  • Supporting vendor relationships and partnerships, ensuring that legal terms align with Tide’s risk appetite and compliance obligations.  
  • Managing contract processes, implementing best practices for efficiency, ensuring consistency across agreements, and overseeing contract allocation and distribution.  
  • Keeping up-to-date with relevant legal developments and industry trends that may impact Tide's contractual obligations or business model.  
  • Supporting with the development of templates, playbooks, and internal training to enhance the efficiency and legal literacy of internal stakeholders. leveraging internal tools (e.g., Confluence) to drive adoption and success.
  • Driving legal excellence by spearheading continuous process improvement, supporting the adoption and implementation of legal technology and Generative AI solutions, and refining team guidelines to enhance efficiency and consistency.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

  • You are a qualified lawyer with 5+ years’ post-qualification experience (PQE) in commercial contract law, ideally with exposure to the fintech or broader financial services sector.
  • You have a solid understanding of contract law, including key clauses in commercial agreements such as limitation of liability, indemnities, warranties, and termination provisions.
  • You possess excellent contract drafting and negotiation skills, with a proven track record of successfully navigating complex commercial arrangements, especially agreements with commercial partners. You are practical and comfortable with ambiguity, commercial oriented.
  • You are commercially minded, with the ability to balance legal risk against business goals and operational realities.
  • You thrive in fast-paced, dynamic environments and are comfortable managing multiple stakeholders and competing deadlines.
  • You are a confident communicator, able to translate legal complexity into clear, practical advice for non-legal stakeholders.
  • You enjoy working in a collaborative, cross-functional environment, while also being comfortable handling matters autonomously.
  • Experience with technology contracts and familiarity with fintech, tech, or financial services regulations is highly desirable.
