Job Description

The Talent Acquisition Manager will work with Video leadership to identify, attract, and hire talented individuals for video roles in a world-class newsroom. Responsibilities include conducting full-cycle recruiting, identifying sourcing channels, meeting with managers and HR, evaluating applications, screening candidates, interviewing, coordinating assessments, advising hiring managers, negotiating offers, and ensuring compliance with talent acquisition regulations. This is a hybrid position.
Must have:
  • 7+ years of full-cycle recruitment experience.
  • 3+ years recruiting for video roles.
  • 3+ years recruiting in high-growth environments.
  • Understanding of the news business.
  • 4+ years of experience managing requisitions in an ATS.
  • 1+ year working on an in-house talent acquisition team.
Good to have:
  • 4+ years of building/improving hiring processes.
  • 1+ year in an OFCCP-compliant environment.
  • Strong negotiation skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Experience in an editorial position.
  • Experience in video news recruitment.
  • Relationships with diversity organizations.

About the Role

We are looking for a Talent Acquisition Manager to work with Video leadership to identify, attract, and hire talented individuals for video roles in a world-class newsroom.

The New York Times is continuing to expand its video journalism, identifying compelling visual stories across the depth and breadth of our report. We showcase the expertise of Times journalists on-camera, share urgent news updates, produce on-the-ground reporting, pioneering Visual Investigations, and video podcasts.

You will use your specialized skills to support the Video team's talent acquisition efforts.

This is a hybrid position, requiring 3 days per week in our NYC headquarters.

Responsibilities:

  • Create a positive candidate experience, from initial engagement to offer acceptance, ensuring every candidate feels valued, respected and aligned with the mission of The New York Times

  • Conduct full-cycle recruiting, including sourcing, selecting, screening, interviewing, and negotiating offers

  • Identify sourcing channels such as job sites, databases, and networking

  • Meet with managers and HR to identify hiring needs and develop a hiring plan

  • Maintain a full understanding of each role and what the team is looking for.

  • Evaluate applications and present qualified candidates to hiring teams for consideration

  • Screen candidates, assessing relevant experience

  • Partner with hiring teams to interview candidates through a structured interview process

  • Coordinate candidate assessments (edit tests) where needed

  • Advise hiring managers in making hiring decisions, including suggesting candidates for other current, future or temporary roles

  • Negotiate and close job offers

  • Articulate blockers and challenges in your searches and come up with solutions to address them.

  • Partner with news desk leadership and hiring managers to keep track of potential candidates for other or future roles

  • Manage multiple open roles in a fast-paced news environment

  • Partner with peers and cross-functional teams (HR, compensation, operations, and legal).

  • Ensure compliance with all applicable laws and regulations and company policy related related to talent acquisition

  • Staff recruiter tables at journalism conferences, building talent pools

  • Demonstrate support and understanding of our value of journalistic independence and a strong commitment to our mission to seek the truth and help people understand the world

  • You will report to the Director Talent Acquisition, Newsroom

Basic Qualifications:

  • 7+ years of experience working in high-touch, full-cycle recruitment

  • 3+ years of experience recruiting for video roles

  • 3+ years recruiting in high-growth environments

  • Demonstrated understanding of the news business

  • 4+ years of experience managing requisitions in an ATS, e.g., Greenhouse

  • 1+ year working on an in-house talent acquisition team

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 4+ years of experience building and improving hiring processes and providing excellent candidate experience

  • 1+ years of experience working in an OFCCP-compliant environment

  • Strong negotiation skills

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Experience in an editorial position in news, particularly visual journalism

  • Experience in video news recruitment

  • Experience and relationships with diversity organizations specializing in editorial talent
