Job Description

As an Anti-Cheat Engineer at Amazon Games, you'll be responsible for protecting the multiplayer experience of millions of players by developing and maintaining anti-cheat, anti-fraud, and anti-bot solutions. You will design and implement detection rules and systems based on client telemetry data, analyze patterns to identify suspicious behavior, and apply knowledge of Windows internals and game engines to create effective detection logic. This role requires strong security principles, software engineering skills, and a deep understanding of game security challenges. You will work with large-scale data processing systems and research/reverse engineer cheat techniques. The team works collaboratively, ensuring a fair and enjoyable gaming environment.

DESCRIPTION

Amazon Games is seeking a talented Security Engineer to join our Anti team. In this role, you will be responsible for protecting the multiplayer experience of millions of players by developing and maintaining anti-cheat, anti-fraud, and anti-bot solutions. Working within our Business Intelligence organization alongside anti-cheat industry veterans, you will focus on creating and implementing detection systems that analyze telemetry data gathered from player systems to identify and counter security threats.

As a Security Engineer on the Anti team, you will leverage your understanding of game engines, Windows internals, and cheat methodologies to design and implement server-side detection rules and systems. You'll work with large-scale data processing systems while applying your security expertise to create effective detection mechanisms. This role requires a strong foundation in security principles, software engineering skills, and a deep understanding of game security challenges.

Key job responsibilities
- Design and implement detection rules and systems based on client telemetry data
- Analyze patterns in gathered data to identify suspicious behaviors and potential cheats
- Apply knowledge of Windows internals and game engines to create effective detection logic
- Develop and maintain scalable backend systems to process and analyze player behavior data
- Research and reverse engineer common cheat techniques to inform detection strategies
- Write efficient, maintainable code for processing large volumes of security telemetry
- Participate in the team's on-call rotation

As a Security Engineer, you will have a significant impact on the multiplayer experiences of millions of players daily. You'll work within a cross-discipline team of engineers and data scientists, driving forward the mission to make cheaters miserable and preserve the integrity of gaming.

About the team
The Anti Team is a new initiative within Amazon Games dedicated to building industry-leading, multi-game anti-cheat solutions from the ground up. Leveraging Amazon's platform and compute capabilities, our goal is to create innovative software that makes cheating so challenging and frustrating that it is no longer viable. Our team operates at the intersection of engineering, data science, and game security, constantly iterating on our solutions to protect the player experience and enforce a level playing field for all players.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

- Experience successfully shipping products, including experience with full product life cycles from design and development to deployment and maintenance
- 3+ years of professional software development experience
- 2+ years of experience with reverse engineering and development tools (IDA Pro, WinDbg, etc)
- 2+ years of experience with C++ or other systems programming languages
- 2+ years contributing to the architecture, design, or analysis of anti-cheat systems

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

- Experienced in anti-cheat middleware, like EAC and BattlEye
- Experienced in code obfuscation and virtualization techniques
- Knowledgeable in anti-malware techniques, anti-virus or EDR
- Knowledgeable in the AWS ecosystem
- Knowledgeable in cheat or bot development
- Knowledgeable in hardware-based security, such as TPMs
- Knowledgeable in hypervisor and virtualization technology
- Successful history in developing anti-cheat technologies
- Passion for games and understanding of player experience impact

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $136,000/year in our lowest geographic market up to $212,800/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
