Responsibilities include overseeing revenue streams, month-end close activities, and the preparation of revenue reports. The director will also manage customer contracts, develop accounting policies, provide technical guidance, participate in system implementations, establish internal controls, support audits, partner with various departments, and lead a revenue accounting team. The role requires building training programs, participating in M&A activities, and monitoring accounting standard changes.
Must have:
  • Bachelor's in Accounting with CPA.
  • 8+ years of accounting experience with revenue recognition.
  • In-depth knowledge of US GAAP (ASC 606).
  • Strong understanding of contract terms.
Good to have:
  • Master's degree is preferred.
  • Experience with Oracle and revenue recognition software.
  • Excellent analytical skills.
  • Strong communication and leadership skills.

Position Summary

Scientific Games is seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Director of Accounting - Revenue and Contracts to lead our revenue recognition and contract accounting functions. Reporting to the Global Controller, this role will be responsible for ensuring the accurate and timely accounting of revenue in accordance with relevant accounting standards and the proper accounting for contracts including contract assets, costs, and valuation of related inventory. The Director will provide guidance and oversight into complex revenue and contract accounting matters, develop and maintain related policies and procedures, and collaborate closely with sales, finance, legal, and other cross-functional teams.

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the application of relevant revenue recognition accounting standards (ASC 606 and IFRS 15) across all revenue streams. Ensure revenue is recognized in accordance with company policy and applicable regulations.
  • Lead month-end and quarter-end close activities related to revenue, billing, and collections including reconciliations, journal entries, and variance analysis.
  • Ensure timely and accurate preparation of revenue & inventory related reports, including deferred revenue, unbilled receivables, accounts receivable and other key revenue accounts.
  • Manage the accounting for customer contracts, including the identification of performance obligations, allocation of transaction prices, and the timing of revenue recognition.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain accounting policies and procedures related to revenue recognition and contract accounting. Ensure these policies are consistently applied across the organization.
  • Provide technical accounting guidance on complex revenue and contract-related transactions. Research and interpret accounting standards and regulations to ensure compliance.
  • Participate in the implementation and maintenance of systems and tools related to revenue recognition and contract management. Ensure data integrity and accuracy.
  • Establish and maintain strong internal controls over the revenue and contract accounting processes. Ensure compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) requirements, as applicable.
  • Lead and support the external audit process related to revenue and contracts, providing necessary documentation and explanations.
  • Partner closely with sales, legal, finance, business development, and other departments to ensure proper accounting treatment for customer contracts and revenue arrangements.
  • Build, mentor, and lead a high-performing revenue accounting, billing and collections team (including the Shared Services team in India), providing guidance on complex revenue accounting issues and ensuring a collaborative, growth-oriented environment.
  • Develop and maintain training programs to support the team’s understanding and execution of policies and controls.
  • Participate in due diligence and integration activities related to mergers and acquisitions from a revenue and contract accounting perspective.
  • Monitor and analyze changes in accounting standards and regulations related to revenue recognition and contracts and assess their impact on the company.

Qualifications

·         Bachelor's degree in Accounting or a related field with an active CPA license required. A Master's degree is highly preferred.

·         Minimum of 8 years of progressive accounting experience, with significant experience in revenue recognition and contract accounting.

·         In-depth knowledge of U.S. GAAP, specifically ASC 606 (Revenue from Contracts with Customers).

·         Strong understanding of contract terms and their accounting implications.

·         Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment

·         Ability to work with and influence internal and external customers to resolve exception items and achieve organizational objectives on an expedient basis

·         Established ability to build new processes and workflows as needed

·         Proven success at identifying and documenting key performance and risk indicators and can develop meaningful and insightful management dashboards and reporting

·         Self-motivated and creative problem-solver

·         Experience with Oracle and other revenue recognition software.

·         Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and technical accounting skills.

·         Strong communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills.

·         Demonstrated leadership and team management abilities.

·         Comfort with AI and a proactive approach to leveraging AI-driven solutions in daily operations
