Job Description

This job manages software development projects, implements processes, ensures project delivery, analyzes technical issues, collaborates with stakeholders, and communicates technical issues with non-technical audiences. It involves setting operational targets and driving operational rigor. The role requires leading a team of skilled engineers, helping with design, implementation, and delivery of web and mobile experiences for customers in India and similar emerging markets.
Must have:
  • Directly manage software development projects and execution through individual contributors.

  • Responsible for the delivery of projects, including quality and timeliness.
  • Manage the roadmap for a scrum team responsible for technical issues.
  • Communicate technical issues with non-technical audiences.
  • Analyze multiple sources of information and identify & resolve complex technical, operational, and organizational problems.
  • Collaborate with direct team, managers, and stakeholders such as Product Owners & PMO.
  • Exhibit leadership and management skills to design, develop and deliver high impact initiatives.
  • Responsible for end-to-end development life cycle of web and mobile products and features.
  • Manage the daily activities of the engineering team working on Agile scrum model.
  • Demonstrate high degree of people focus and be a team player.
  • Be highly customer centric and deliver customer delight through products and features.
  • Act as a bridge between product and technology teams.
  • Demonstrate Team and Stakeholder management skills towards meeting project timelines and delivery commitments.
  • Work closely with integration teams and merchant partners.
  • Actively work towards developing products that meet high standards of convenience, security, performance and reliability.
  • Work closely with the solutions architect, engineering leaders and the engineering team to deliver solutions.
  • Have strong business and technical vision and the ability to communicate this vision to multiple audiences.
  • Sense evolving business trends and translate them into technology solutions.
  • Represent the company in external industry and academic forums.
  • Minimum of 8 years of relevant work experience.
  • BSCS plus 12+ years / MSCS plus 10 years of experience in software design, development and architecture.
  • Demonstrated experience with building large-scale web and mobile based software.
  • Solid understanding of Web platforms, scripting technologies with keen focus on ease of use, security and performance.
  • Strong Object-oriented programming skills and expertise in one of Java/J2EE or C++.
  • Working experience with databases such as MSSQL/ Oracle etc.
Good to have:
  • Knowledge of mobile programming in Android/iOS.
  • Experience and exposure to Python, Scala, or NoSQL.
  • Experience or Awareness of the payments industry.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Directly manages software development projects (including program management) and execution through individual contributors. May also lead project teams across platforms or groups
  • Implements processes to drive strong operational hygiene for all components and systems within their group
  • Responsible for the delivery of projects, including quality and timeliness, that impact their domain and potentially one other
  • Demonstrates strong tactical ability by managing the roadmap for a scrum team responsible for technical issues of diverse scope where analysis requires an understanding of current business or tends
  • Competent at communicating technical issues with non-technical audiences
  • Analyzes multiple sources of information and identifies & resolves complex technical, operational, and organizational problems relating to software development.
  • Collaborates with direct team, managers in org, stakeholders such as Product Owners & PMO

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 8 years of relevant work experience and a Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.

This Engineering Manager role will influence key consumer and merchant experiences for PayPal’s India based customers. The person is a highly motivated, versatile, hands-on Engineering Manager responsible for leading a team of skilled engineers, helping with design, implementation and delivering of state-of-the-art web and mobile experiences for the customers in India and similar emerging markets.

The ideal candidate is an individual with deep experiences in building customer facing products that involve web interfaces, mobile applications, as well as mid-tier and backend components. Business acumen, hands-on technology skills, positive work ethic and a collaborative mind set are key to the success of this role.

The prospective candidate will be working with various cross functional groups (business, product, analytics, user experience design and engineering) and will require admirable articulation, negotiation and influencing skills given the level of visibility. The person is also expected to manage a team of about 10 engineers, and constantly groom them into strong professionals. Experience or Awareness of the payments industry is a big plus.

Key Responsibilities:

Technical Skills:
