Job Description

As a Strategic Sourcing Lead, you will develop strategic plans for assigned commodities and identify new global suppliers. You will help with long-term inventory plans and support PPAP for source save initiatives. Working closely with purchasing, design engineers, manufacturing, and product managers, you will evaluate suppliers and drive performance through scorecards. Responsibilities include developing procurement strategies, soliciting supplier quotations, analyzing proposals, negotiating supplier relationships, and monitoring supplier performance. You will also develop long-term inventory plans, prioritize source save projects, evaluate supplier capabilities, and participate in project meetings. Continuous learning about materials, markets, and company operations is expected, along with monitoring industry trends and anticipating supply disruptions.
Must have:
  • Develop procurement strategies for assigned commodities.
  • Negotiate and manage supplier relationships.

  • Participate in cross-functional meetings.
  • Monitor industry trends and supply chain dynamics.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Business Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, Visio, PowerPoint).
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of five years' experience in Supply Management/Purchasing.
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally (up to 15%).
Good to have:
  • Experience with electro-mechanical components, motors, PCBA's, wire/cable assemblies.
  • Experience in a high-mix, lower-volume industry.
  • Qlik experience.

Job Description

Responsible for developing strategic plans for assigned commodities including identifying new global suppliers.  Help with development of long-term inventory plans for commodities along with supporting PPAP for source save initiatives including prioritization/tracking across commodities.  As a member of the global sourcing team, work closely with purchasing, design engineers, manufacturing, and product managers to identify strategic supply chain partners.  Responsible for evaluating suppliers and driving supplier performance through effective use of scorecards. 

The ideal candidate for a Strategic Sourcing Lead would be able to do the following:

 

  1. Develop procurement strategies for assigned commodities within the scope of authority and consistent with the objectives, policies, and best interests of Alto-Shaam.  The strategies should balance short-term and long-term objectives and operational and corporate priorities to achieve performance goals relating to quality, total cost, and material or service availability
  2. Develop, prepare and solicit requests for supplier quotations or proposals.  Analyze and review the quotations or proposals to determine which supplier to recommend based on quality, total cost, lead-time, service and financial stability. 
  3. Negotiate and manage supplier relationships for assigned commodities. 
  4. Regularly review pricing across suppliers and materials.  Communicate pricing and price changes in a timely manner to all required personnel.  Research, develop, and present opportunities to reduce material costs and inventory resulting in a reduction of year over year cost savings. 
  5. Monitor the performance of suppliers to ensure they meet Alto-Shaam’ standards.  Develop and implement methods for improving supplier quality and service performance.  Resolve claims (both internal and external) in a fair and ethical manner while protecting the long-term interests of the company
  6. Responsible for developing long-term inventory plans and agreements with the help of global sourcing team members.
  7. Prioritize and help bring source save projects and PPAP conclusion in all steps of the process across maintaining visibility
  8. Evaluate the capabilities and capacities of current and proposed suppliers; particularly their ability to meet quality requirements, specifications and delivery dates.  Recommend the addition or removal of suppliers based on this evaluation.
  9. Participate in Project Meetings with Engineering, supplier Technical Meetings, and other cross-functional meetings as necessary or assigned to build knowledge and achieve company goals and objectives.
  10. Continually expand knowledge of materials, markets, and Alto-Shaam products and operations.  Attend industry conferences and trade shows as appropriate.  Understand basics of processes and materials used to produce raw materials.  Able to communicate basic technical information with suppliers and technical and manufacturing personnel.
  11. Monitor industry trends and changes for relevant markets, suppliers, and materials.  Evaluate and monitor supply & demand dynamics in an effort to anticipate potential supply disruptions.  Effectively communicate market information to the divisions and management. 
  12. Provide assistance and back-up support for other Purchasing personnel as necessary.

Qualifications

For a candidate to be successful as a Strategic Sourcing Lead they must have:

  • Practical knowledge of how supply chains work and ability to assess cost drivers of industrial processes.
  • Procurement- Sourcing experience in one of the following commodity sets:
    • electro-mechanical components, motors, PCBA’s, and wire/cable assemblies.
  • Demonstrated record of identifying, initiating, and delivering year over year cost savings.
  • Ability to develop, interpret and make decisions from total cost of ownership models.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively; with strong networking, influencing, and organizational skills; and to drive effective project execution.
  • Team player who can successfully interact with internal and external organizations and effectively communicate verbally and in writing in a timely manner to ensure positive results.
  • Robust problem-solving techniques and ability to develop creative ideas and solutions.
  • Strong analytical skills.  Ability to understand and communicate basic technical information both internally & externally.
  • Example of participating in a negotiation of a complex long-term agreement(s) and increasing spend under management required.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in computer skills inclusive of all Microsoft Business Suite required (Outlook, Word, Excel, Visio, PowerPoint).  Qlik experience a plus.
  • Bachelor’s degree in business, Supply Chain, or Operations Management, or an equivalent combination of formal education and work experience.
  • Minimum of five years’ experience in Supply Management/ Purchasing,
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally (up to 15%).
  • Purchasing experience in a high-mix, lower-volume industry is beneficial.
