About the Role:
Lead Blooming Health's engineering organization through its next phase of rapid growth. Build and scale a high-performing, distributed engineering team (US, India, & Other) capable of quickly delivering a complex, compliant, and world class SaaS platform. Drive technical strategy, operational excellence, and a culture of innovation and execution, ensuring tight alignment with product and business goals to meet ambitious commercial targets. Serve as a key member of the executive leadership team.
This is a hybrid role, with strong preference for NY based candidates.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Team Building & Scaling: Recruit, onboard, develop, and retain top engineering talent (managers, leads, ICs) across the US and India. Design and evolve the engineering organizational structure (~7+ pods) for scalability and focus.
2. Execution & Delivery: Own the end-to-end engineering execution lifecycle. Implement and refine agile processes (SDLC, CI/CD, QA) to ensure predictable, high-quality, and timely delivery of roadmap commitments across multiple pods.
3. Technical Strategy & Architecture: Partner with the CPO, CEO and existing Director of Engineering/Platform Architect to define and execute the long-term technical vision. Ensure the platform architecture is scalable, reliable, secure, and maintainable. Oversee key technical decisions and manage technical debt.
4. Operational Excellence: Establish Drive improvements in system performance, reliability (SLOs/SLAs), monitoring, incident management, and overall operational maturity. Foster a strong sense of ownership for production health.
5. Leadership & Culture: Manage, mentor, and grow engineering leaders. Foster a positive, collaborative, results-oriented, and mission-driven engineering culture across distributed locations.
6. Cross-Functional Partnership: Serve as the engineering counterpart to Product (Director/CPO), Sales/CS (CCO/CRO), and Operations. Ensure seamless collaboration, alignment on priorities, and effective communication.
7. Budget & Resource Management: Manage the engineering budget, optimize resource allocation across pods/initiatives, and ensure efficient infrastructure spending.
8. Compliance & Security: Champion security best practices and ensure engineering processes support achieving and maintaining required compliance standards (HIPAA, SOC2, HITRUST).
Experience & Qualifications (Must-Haves):
- Proven Scaling Experience: Demonstrated success scaling an engineering organization through a high-growth phase (e.g., from 20-30 to 75-100+ engineers) at a B2B SaaS company, ideally within a startup/growth-stage environment.
- Distributed Team Leadership: Significant experience managing and leading geographically distributed engineering teams, with specific experience managing India-based teams strongly preferred. Understands communication, cultural nuances, and operational cadence for global teams.
- Strong Technical Foundation & Architectural Oversight: While not necessarily coding daily, must possess deep technical credibility, understand modern cloud architectures (GCP/AWS), APIs, microservices, data pipelines, and be capable of guiding strategic technical decisions and partnering effectively with architects.
- AI Product Development: Experience building and scaling AI applications (LLMs, Bots, Predictive models etc..)
- Platform Product Development: Experience building multi-product platforms, managing the complexities of supporting capabilities as point solutions and as integrated solutions.
- Operational Rigor & Process Improvement: Experience implementing and maturing key engineering processes (Agile/Scrum, CI/CD, incident management, monitoring, QA automation) leading to measurable improvements in predictability, quality, and reliability.
- Excellent People Leadership: Proven ability to hire A+ talent, develop managers/leaders, build high morale, handle performance management, and foster career growth.
- Strong Cross-Functional Collaboration: History of successfully partnering with Product, GTM, and other departments to achieve shared business goals. Excellent communication and influencing skills.
Experience & Qualifications (Nice-to-Haves):
- Healthcare Technology Experience: Direct experience in health tech, particularly with integrations (EHRs like Epic/Cerner, FHIR), HIPAA compliance, and the payer/provider ecosystem. Strongly preferred.
- AI/ML Ops: Familiarity with the lifecycle of AI/ML features, MLOps concepts, and managing teams working on data-intensive applications.
- Compliance Frameworks: Experience working within regulated environments and achieving compliance certifications (NIST, SOC2, HITRUST awareness).
- Experience with Specific Stack Elements: GCP, MongoDB, PostgreSQL, Node.js, etc. is beneficial but less critical than leadership and scaling experience.
