Job Description

As Legal Counsel, based in our Malta office, you will report directly to the General Counsel and collaborate closely with internal stakeholders. You will be responsible for contract negotiations, providing strategic legal guidance, and offering day-to-day legal support. Key responsibilities include drafting, negotiating, and reviewing commercial contracts, providing legal advice on IP, data protection, and commercial law matters, and ensuring regulatory compliance. You will also participate in projects managed by the Legal team, deliver training, and assist with corporate affairs. Furthermore, the role involves refining existing agreements and developing new templates or processes to streamline the legal team's workload.
Must have:
  • University Law Degree with 3-4 years of experience.
  • Demonstrable experience in drafting and reviewing legal agreements.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
Good to have:
  • Background in the iGaming industry is beneficial.
  • Knowledge in employment, IP, data protection, corporate, and commercial law is an asset.
  • Experience with tools like ClickUp, DocuSign, and Microsoft Office.

Job Description

As Legal Counsel, based in our Malta office, you will report directly to the General Counsel and collaborate closely with internal stakeholders across the business. This role involves diverse responsibilities, from contract negotiations to providing strategic legal guidance. We are looking for a confident, solution-oriented professional with a commercial mindset and strong communication skills. Experience in intellectual property and data protection is a plus. 

 

What You'll Do: 

  • Contract Management: Draft, negotiate, and review commercial contracts, including software licenses, distribution agreements, outsourcing agreements, and other legal documents related to business operations. 

  • Legal Advisory: Provide legal advice on IP, data protection, commercial, and contract law matters. 

  • Day-to-Day Support: Work closely with various departments, offering daily legal support and collaborating on business goals. 

  • Project Involvement: Participate in diverse projects managed by or involving the Legal team. 

  • Regulatory Compliance: Stay up-to-date with developments in gambling regulations, ensuring risk mitigation and compliance with local laws. 

  • Training and Presentations: Deliver presentations and training to internal stakeholders to promote an understanding of contract importance and legal processes. 

  • Corporate Affairs: Assist with corporate affairs and ensure proper legal documentation. 

  • Process Improvement: Refine existing agreements and develop new templates or processes to help streamline the legal team’s workload while protecting against potential risks. 

  • Additional Support: Support any other tasks required to meet business needs. 

Qualifications

Who You Are:

  • Qualifications: University Law Degree (preferably from Malta) with 3-4 years of experience, either in-house or in private practice.
  • Industry Knowledge: Background in the iGaming industry is beneficial, though experience in related fields is also welcome.
  • Legal Skills: Demonstrable experience in drafting, negotiating, and reviewing legal agreements.
  • Specialized Knowledge: Knowledge in employment, IP, data protection, corporate, and commercial law is an asset.
  • Communication and Collaboration: Excellent communication skills, approachable, and capable of effective collaboration with both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Analytical and Strategic: Strong analytical skills, with the ability to identify risks and recommend best-fit solutions.
  • Self-Motivated: Proactive and self-driven with strong organizational and time-management abilities, able to prioritize under pressure.

  • Technical Proficiency: Experience with tools like ClickUp, DocuSign, and Microsoft Office.
  • iGaming Expertise: Additional experience in compliance and regulatory affairs within the gaming industry.
  • Stakeholder Relationships: Existing connections with regulatory authorities such as the Malta Gaming Authority or other relevant bodies.
  • Process Improvement: A track record of developing legal templates and processes to improve team efficiency

Salary range for this position is 30,000-45,000 euros depending on experience, qualifications, location and education. This range is designed to reflect the market rate and company budget for this role.
