Role Overview
Strategic Business Development Leads are skilled lawyers from top-tier law firms and in-house legal teams who apply their legal experience to ensure that current and prospective customers understand how Harvey’s solutions enhance specific day-to-day workflows, working alongside Harvey’s Account Executives to support all aspects of our sales strategy. Strategic Business Development Leads build consultative relationships with law firm partners and associates and in-house attorneys at private equity firms and Fortune 500 companies, becoming trusted advisors on how Harvey’s AI solutions can make them more effective.
We are now seeking a Japanese-speaking Strategic Business Development Lead, based in our Sydney office. The ideal candidate is fluent in Japanese and has practiced law in Japan, bringing first-hand insight into local legal practices and market dynamics. This individual will serve as a bridge between our technology and the unique needs of legal professionals in the region.
You’ll build consultative relationships with partners and associates at major law firms, as well as in-house counsel at corporates and financial institutions, becoming a trusted advisor. Through tailored demos, targeted education, and strategic advisory conversations, you’ll help customers envision and implement new ways of working powered by AI.
What You’ll Do
- Engage with English- and Japanese-speaking lawyers at existing and prospective customers to understand their workflow challenges, strategic objectives, and broader firm context — then demonstrate how Harvey’s AI solutions can address them.
- Act as a trusted advisor, helping law firms and legal teams think through adoption strategy, change management, and how to integrate Harvey into daily workflows and firm-wide processes.
- Lead tailored product demonstrations aligned with the priorities of law firm practice groups and in-house legal teams, validating use cases and illustrating clear value.
- Identify and prioritize opportunities to deliver impact with Harvey across legal teams, supporting both individual users and broader adoption initiatives.
- Partner with the marketing team to develop content and messaging for the Japanese market that speaks to region-specific legal challenges and practices.
- Act as the Voice of the Customer, bringing legal insight and user feedback into sales strategy, product development, and go-to-market planning.
- Provide competitive and market intelligence specific to the Japanese and broader APAC legal tech landscape.
- Further strengthen Harvey’s reputation in the Japanese and broader APAC region as a credible, substantive, and forward-looking AI partner to the legal industry.
What You Have
- Based in Sydney and eligible to work in Australia.
- Admitted to practise in Japan as a Bengoshi, with 3+ years post-admission experience—either in private practice or as in-house counsel in Japan.
- Native or business-level fluency in both Japanese and English, with the executive presence to engage senior stakeholders in either language.
- Strong understanding of Japan’s legal processes and the challenges faced by legal professionals.
- Executive presence with the ability to engage partners, general counsel, and senior stakeholders.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills.
- Commercial acumen and curiosity about how AI can transform legal services.
